Why were Romulus and Remus thrown into the Tigris river?

Romulus and Remus were not actually thrown into the Tigris River; this is a confusion with their story. In Roman mythology, they were abandoned as infants and placed in a basket on the Tiber River, not the Tigris. Their mother, Rhea Silvia, was forced to abandon them due to fear of her uncle's wrath. The twins were later rescued and raised by a she-wolf, ultimately leading to the founding of Rome.
