If your question is what i think it is; to what extent can sociology be seen as a science. Many sociologists would argue that sociology is an extreamly relative science and should be look upon as so.
If you look at the work of Emile Durkheim, who was a positivist he argues that sociology is a science, by positivist I mean - prefers to work with stats rather than Words - all positivists have this belief.
Interpretivists however wouldn't argue so firmly that sociology is a science as they prefer to work with 'Words' rather than stats.
What to look up; Durkheim's work on suicide. (very influencial in the sociology 'world' as it was the first research that labelled suicide as more than a psychological thing)
- J.D Douglas; interpretivist. again, his work on suicide is the best example.
