Can you seal limewash with stabiliser and then paint over it with masonry paint?

you can buy alkiline resisting primer paint from trade decorating shops, apply it after you have removed any loose flaking limewash with a wire brush. I am currently using "Johnstone's" alkali resisting primer which binds and seals the surface and prevents alkali attack on subsequent layers of paint.
