The fuel filter is normally to the left of the carburetor. To replace it, it is best to wait until you have less than a quarter tank of fuel, and the engine is relatively cool. Loosen the hose clamps above and below the filter, then twist the hose slightly and remove the upper hose from the filter. Now for this next part, you will probably spill a little fuel from the filter. Twist the lower hose (you can rotate the filter if you want), and remove the filter. Some fuel may drain out of the filter, which is why it is better to have the engine cool rather than hot ;)

Inspect your fuel lines to make sure the rubber is not cracking. The original hoses had a cloth covering which hides cracks, so check the ends. Insert the new filter, paying attention to the flow direction arrow which should point upward. Tighten the hose clamps, but not too tight. You should not be able to twist the hose on the filter easily. Start the engine and check for leaks. The first couple times you take it out on the road, it's a good idea to stop and check for leaks again. Better safe than sorry!
