How do you get 2 players on the wii game skylanders?

Connect a second Wii remote while playing and point at the screen with it. You will see a yellow star or something that says P2. Now the second player can collect Star Bits and stun enemies, but that's about it. The second player cannot do nearly as many things as the first player.
