Why can radio telescopes not simply scan the skies looking for signals, because?

Oh honey, because radio telescopes are too busy sifting through the cosmic noise like they're searching for a needle in a haystack. They need to point at specific locations in the sky to filter out all that unwanted interference and focus on those potential alien signals. So basically, they ain't got time to be casually stargazing, they've got work to do.
