Can you go blind from welding?

i wish i knew the answer to that question. i am a third generation welder and i was wondering because i have gotten arc flash quite a few times working in a rig mat shop with at least 20 welders working in around me. im not working there anymore but i still get the ocasional arc flash which blinds me pretty good for at least 30 seconds. i dont often get the sand paper eyes(only have gotten it about 5 or 6 times since i started welding) i was thinking that i maybe have an immunity because welding is in my blood but i would still like to know some more information from someone who knows about eyes and how they can get damaged and maybe some ways i can help build an immunity for my eyes other than not getting flashed. lol
