Why is the setting important to the mood of a story?

Setting and Atmosphere creates a ground for a character or object to move, and interact in, giving the place a type of mood, tone or feeling to provoke emotions. Without these characteristics, the reader can not fully immerse themselves into the scene or plot, and fine details about the character(s) or object are lost.
