Why didn't people take mein kampf seriously?

Many people didn't take "Mein Kampf" seriously because it was written before Hitler rose to power, and at the time it was seen as the ramblings of an extremist rather than a serious political manifesto. Additionally, the controversial nature of its content made it easy for some to dismiss it as extremist Propaganda.
