Why did hayao miyazaki start to make anime?

If you watch the behind-the-scenes documentary on the English version DVD, it said that "Spirited Away" is actually a movie dedicated to Miyazaki's "goddaughter" and he made the main character, Chihiro, almost exactly like the girl and same with the parents.
