Failing is a lot more specific, because you can fail at something (a test, an interview, etc.) and not actually be a failure as a person. Everyone "fails" at something- whether it be minor, like a temporary thing that doesn't have any affect on one's life, or even something bigger, like being a bad parent. But being a failure implies not only is it a lifestyle but a personality and the essence of one's being. Being a failure does not exist because whether they are convinced of it or not, no one can be a failure down to their very core.
