Why did the Greeks have to be naked in the first olympic games?

Another time, another moral code. Nakedness wasn't as "special" as it is today.

Greek Olympians were naked so that spectators could admire their bodies. Ancient Greeks were famous for their love of beauty.

Artemis wasn't naked. She was the maiden goddess and once got a mortal ripped to shreds for seeing her naked.
