Why are humanities included in the school curriculum?

Three main humanities studies are typically included in the school curriculum. English prepares the student for the "how" of writing college papers and reports in the workplace. History provides the context and the "why" we have to learn certain things for our profession. Other languages help us communicate with folks from foreign countries and show us their cultural perspective so that we do not get stuck in our attitude about life.
