Why was the martian chronicles banned?

Maybe as an after-shock from Tarzan ( a century old this year) the church schoolks never did like Science Fiction and did not hesitate to keep it off the shelves- of school libraries. I can recall an English teacher in one of these schools who went even further and denounced Creative Writing as a form of blasphemy!
