The capital city of Rhodes, known as Rhodes Town, was primarily established during the Hellenistic period, around 408 BC, when the city was founded by the union of three older settlements: Ialyssos, Lindos, and Kamiros. It grew significantly during the following centuries, particularly known for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built around 280 BC. The city has a rich history that continued through Roman, Byzantine, and medieval periods.
