Why does crook's allow Lennie into his room?

he doesn't want to let lennie in his room because lennie is white and crooks, being black, isn't allowed in the white bunk house, so why should a white man be allowed in his room?

he changes his mind because he wants someone to talk to and feels grateful for the company.
