What are tactile discs?

Tactile discs, also known as Merkel cells or Merkel discs, are specialized sensory receptors found in the skin. They are responsible for detecting light touch and texture, providing the brain with information about fine tactile sensations. These discs are located in the epidermis, particularly in areas with high tactile sensitivity, such as fingertips and lips.
