From the time men are boys they are socialized not to show emotions. I am sure you have heard a mother or father tell a little boy not to cry because he had to behave like a man. This message tells the little boy not to show emotion and so he grows up not learning to express himself or cry. If you watch young boys play you will also observe that they will be more physical than girls and talk less. Little girls will discuss and talk about things while boys zoom their cars around the sandbox, run around the yard, crash into each other, give directions to each other, but they don't talk in the same way girls do. These things show up later in life and in relationships. Men/boys are also taught to be problem solvers, so when a wife or girlfriend wants to talk about a problem a man will be thinking of a solution to that problem rather than the essence of the problem. When this come to emotional issues the emotion gets lost in solving the problem and looses it's value.
