How do you remove scratches from a football visor?

I have heard if you smear toothpaste in the scratch and wait twenty minutes then remove the toothpaste with water let it dry and it shall sparkle again but I havnt tried it yet do please do contact me at arctcilions58@Yahoo.com if this does work
