Following the end of Garvin's term as Governor of Rhode Island, George H. Utter (born July 24, 1854 in Plainfield, New Jersey; died November 3, 1912 in Westerly, Rhode Island) became the forty-ninth Governor of Rhode Island, serving between January 3, 1905 and January 1, 1907.
