How do you determine if the engine head gasket is leaking?

A simple way.. with the engine running, spray some brake or carburetor cleaner around the circumferance of the head gasket. If the engine suddenly revs up as some point while you're doing this, there you have it. Additionally, you should do the same around the intake manifold gasket, as well.
