Not long. A good system would be to try and keep them through the active year, and the last one in a more permanent file. Answer I work in human resources for a large government organization. I cannot tell you how many times people have to prove when they started and when they retired. Keep the milestone paystubs in your permanent records, so you have written proof. It will make life easier.
