What do a water boatman eat?

Water boatmen in the US are mostly herbavores and use their small strawlike mouth appendage to inject their saliva into a small plant, algae to predigest it using the same appendage to suck up the food. Sometimes water boatmen will use this same technique to eat animal matter (such as tadpoles and such)
