How long did it take for the dinosaurs extinct?

Theories vary from a few months to several years, but there are no dinosaurs after the Cretaceous Tertiary event 65 million years ago. The combination of the asteroid impact at Chicxulub in Mexico and the volcanic eruptions in Deccan Fields in India kicked up massive amounts of dust and ash blocking the sun and causing the death of plants, followed by the starvation of the plant eaters, followed by the starvation of the meat eaters. My personal belief is that the shock wave from the impact of the 6 mile wide asteroid traveling through the molten core of the planet triggered the eruptions on the opposite side of the world.
