What was Saint George famous for?

George supposedly killed a dragon but that is only a legend. Dragons do not exist. He did, however, refuse an order from his army superiors to kill and persecute Christians. For that he was tortured and beheaded.

By tradition we know that George was a Roman soldier who was suppose to fight the early Christians. He lost his head for refusing the order. Legendary tales about George say he fought and killed a dragon.
