Why is Patch amazing in Hush Hush and Crescendo?

He is amazing in a lot of parts but in one part of Hush Hush Nora finds out something very hurtful. The book Crescendo is where things get worse. Both Patch and Nora make wrong decisions that just makes you want to throw the book across the room.
