In the North American continent, the first contacts refer to the encounter of the native Indigenous people and the Europeans who established settlements of immigrants. Many groups of Indigenous people were living in America before 1492, until the arrival of Christopher Columbus bringing European people, culture and traditions. The majority of the initial interactions between these different groups occurred in the Southwest and Eastern Woodlands regions. In North America, there were many indigenous groups with different ways of living. These groups interacted with the Europeans and converged to build a new nation on the North American continent. The colonies that were established by Europeans included England, France, Spain, and the Netherlands, but not all were successful. New European settlements were established, in Canada the French, in New York the Dutch, Mexico the Spanish and in Virginia the British.
