What is the English translation of the name Confucius?

The Chinese writer and philosopher known as Confucius is actually called 孔子 or 孔夫子 in Chinese. These are pronounced Kongzi and Kongfuzi, respectively. However, when Westerners first came into contact with China, they decided to translate 孔夫子 (pronounced Kongfuzi) into the more Latin sounding "Confucius."
