Why can we not name some features of the moon?

Some features of the Moon cannot be officially named due to the guidelines set by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which governs naming conventions in astronomy. These guidelines stipulate that names must have historical significance, cultural relevance, or be associated with notable scientific contributions. Additionally, some features may be too small or transient to warrant formal names. As a result, while many larger features have names, smaller craters and geological formations often remain unnamed.
