How does weedon Scott succeed in taming White Fang?

He tamed White Fang by feeding it meat. First he would just throw it to White Fang, then he would make the throw come a little closer, and then a little bit more closer, and then White Fang finally ate the piece of meat right off his hand which made him tamed and made him trust Weedon Scott.
