Exercise is great, personally I used to be a very depressed person and went to my doctor to see if it was depression, my doctor said it wasn't, but told me that when i do get depressed I should work out, because it releases what he called the "happy" chemical in your brain. So to answer your question, yes it can effect your mood greatly, and gets you in better shape to live a healthier lifestyle.
