Muhammad fled to Medina in 622 CE, an event known as the Hijra, primarily due to increasing persecution and hostility he and his followers faced in Mecca. The Meccan leaders opposed his teachings, which threatened their social and economic status. In Medina, he found a more welcoming environment and was able to establish a supportive community, allowing Islam to grow and flourish. This migration marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar and was pivotal in the establishment of the Muslim community.
