Was Hans Christian Anderson insane

There is no evidence to suggest that Hans Christian Andersen was insane. He was a Danish author best known for his Fairy Tales, such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Andersen did struggle with personal insecurities and depression, but these do not equate to being insane.
