Why does tom go looking for his wife the devil and tom warrant?

Tom goes looking for his wife because he is greedy and wants to protect his wealth. He makes a deal with the devil to exchange his soul for riches. When he realizes he is about to die, he seeks out his wife hoping to strike another deal.
