Does stefan and Elena get back together?

In the series "The Vampire Diaries," Stefan and Elena do share a deep connection and have an on-again, off-again relationship throughout the show. By the end of the series, Elena is with Damon Salvatore, but in the series finale, it is implied that she and Stefan had a strong bond that transcended their romantic relationship.
