Can you hook up a Sony subwoofer to a Pioneer VSX-1021-k receiver?

Yes, You can it doesnt matter what brand the speakers are as long as the reciever specs and the speaker wattage is around the same. Oh and i just hooked up the pioneer vsx 1021 to the sony w-3000 and it seems to do alright.( not an authority on home theater systems)
