Instagram
Instagram started out in October 2010 as a photo-sharing app called Burbn, created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The original concept was a location-based service that allowed users to check in and share photos, but it quickly pivoted to focus on photo sharing and social networking. The app gained rapid popularity, leading to its rebranding as
Instagram, and by April 2012, it had over 100 million users. Facebook acquired
Instagram later that year for approximately $1 billion.
