Why is it necessary to celebrate Christmas?

From a technical standpoint, the celebration of Christmas is not necessary. People celebrate Christmas because it is the supposed birthday of Jesus Christ. I say supposed because the birthday of Jesus has not been proven to even occur in December, let alone on the 24th.
