How do you get a 1978 Jeep CJ5 started after replacing fuel pump no gas is getting to the engine?

answer: get alittle funnel and pour some gas in the fuel line after disconecting it from the pump... my jeep wouldn't get prime and that did the trick: I suggest you check your hoses on your fuel lines. I have found that the reformulated gas seems to actually melt and soften the fuel hose rubber of the older Jeeps. The rubber particles then travel to your fuel filter and clog it to where it won't allow fuel to pass. DO NOT try running without a filter, or you may clog up the carburetor. I connected an outboard motor tank right to my fuel pump and I was able to run jeep long enough to plow my driveway. Plastic 3 gallon tank works great, but limited run time but long enough for short distance. Once summer gets here I will drop the Jeep tank and install new fuel line hoses, and all should be fine. If your fuel filter is plugged, you can blow it out with air pressure in the opposite direction of the normal flow. You may have to rinse it out with gas several times and blow it out again, to rid it of all the rubber particles.
