What is a tree gap?

A tree gap is a natural opening where trees have been killed. Primarily this occurs as a result of wind or fire, while the rest are usually due to herbivores. Tree gaps can also be a result of harvesting. Therefore tree gaps can be both man made and naturally occurring.
