Why did James Edward fail to become king?

James Edward, known as the Old Pretender, failed to become king primarily due to a lack of widespread support and effective military backing for his claim to the British throne. His two attempts to regain the crown, in 1708 and 1715, were poorly organized and faced significant opposition from the established Hanoverian government. Additionally, the shifting political landscape and diminished enthusiasm for the Jacobite cause among the public further undermined his efforts. Ultimately, these factors led to his failure to secure the throne.
